Rembrandt Tulips, 20 x 20 inches

Rembrandt Tulips by Elizabeth Floyd, 20 x 20 inches, oil on linen

Rembrandt Tulips

The tulip season nearly passed me by, I feel fortunate that I was able to paint this painting in the spring. I have found that I am unwilling to cut my tulips in the garden sometimes, they just look so lovely.

Camellias, 14 x 18 inches

Camellias by Elizabeth Floyd, 14 x 18 inches, oil on linen

Camellias

Every time I am at my kitchen window, I look out at three new camellia bushes, they bring me so much joy. For several years the view out of my kitchen was plain, then early this spring I realized that I wanted to add some evergreen hedging against the fence opposite my kitchen window, I only wish I had planted them sooner. To me, my expanding garden is one of the deepest felt and enjoyed pleasures in my life. Yes, each time I expand a part of my garden I wonder, why am I giving myself more to do outside when I barely keep up with what I have, but when a new area gets planted, all those reservations go away.

This painting is the first of many camellia paintings to come.

Clover Flower Crown, 18 x 14 inches

Clover Flower Crown by Elizabeth Floyd, oil on linen, 18 x 14 inches

Clover Flower Crown, Naomi

My dear daughter Naomi turned five yesterday.

This portrait of Naomi was of a fun afternoon when I was not feeling well and we were hanging out on a blanket in our backyard. I was laying back and she began to gather clover flowers for me to make me feel better. It was so cute, that I was revived enough to make her a flower crown of the clover flowers found in our yard. We had three different types of clover, the common White Clover, Red Clover, and Large Hop Clover. I loved how each of them worked together. Weeds can be wonderful things, even if they do try to take over sometimes :)

This is how she looks this summer, sun-kissed with freckles, shoulder length hair and a whimsical smile.

Delightful Daffodils in Pewter Cup

Narcissus ‘tete-a-tete’ are some of my favorite harbingers of a warmer season to come.

Yellow Colossus, 7 x 5 inches

Colossus Yellow by Elizabeth Floyd, 7 x 5 inches, oil on linen panel

Colossus Yellow

Pansies were the first flowers that came back to life in the garden this spring.  I love these colossus pansies because their flowers are so large and dynamic.
