A post-it habit to change your entire painting experience

Hello my friend, I have a super easy tip today and it is very low tech…

Most all good and award-winning paintings demonstrate a unique and compelling idea. And your ability to stay the course and complete your painting with that intent in mind is the easiest way to create good paintings.

However, if you are like me, as I get into a painting I will sometimes lose track of that compelling idea because I get mystified by another aspect of the subject I am painting. If I do not practice some mental constraint and rein in my creative efforts I can easily create a painting with more than one focus area.

This is where a post-it helps me. I will write my compelling idea on it and stick it to my easel. So while I am working on a painting, I can be consistently reminded of my painting idea. This in turn keeps it to the forefront so all my painting decisions made while working on the painting will support and reinforce the design idea.

Enjoy your next painting session and get a post-it on your easel to support your creative process.
