Holly Watercolor Sketchbook Entry

Sketching is about artistic freedom.

And what do I mean by freedom? I mean that when you are sketching, you go out and you get anything that's going on at that moment and sketch.

Sketching does not have to be an exact science. You don't have to do the same thing every time you sketch, too. It also gives you that freedom to try different things.

Your sketchbook can be filled with whatever you want.  Nothing fancy or specially curated.

This is how this sketch of holly came to be, I was on a walk with my puppy. And I picked up three different leaves I thought I wanted to draw.  They were interesting and looked like they would be fun to explore. And then as I was walking back home, and I saw a holly bush. And then I looked at the different holly stems. And I thought, oh, this is a really good one. I liked it for the variety, the fact that it's a snapshot of the season, which then connects to the seasons.  With mostly red berries, but one green berry because its still ripening.  It wasn’t yet cold enough for all the berries to turn bright red.
