Floral Still Life - Edge Quality
ONLINE Class

Starts Wednesday, May 10th

  • Explore how edge quality affects your painting

  • Discover the oil painting techniques to help you grow

  • Engage in a lively and supportive creative class environment

An online 5-week class, we meet Wednesdays from 10am to 1pm EST.

Capturing the beauty of flowers is a wonderful way to connect with the season. In this online course, we will gather together on Zoom to paint, connect and support each other while exploring floral still-life painting. Over the six weeks we will work on several floral still-life setups, and each set up will have specific exercises designed to investigate composition and color theory, the mechanics of color mixing and brushstroke essentials. Then we will progress to completing a floral painting, utilizing the lessons learned from the exercises. Photo references of flowers grown in my garden are provided.

We will cover in depth how edge quality heightens the visual expression of your painting. The three technique lessons will explore lost and found edges, the hierarchy of edge types, and how this hierarchy of edge types is affected by value and color relationships.

This class is more than just how to paint a specific flower arrangement, instead it’s about teaching you the tools and fundamentals that give you freedom to paint anything you want.

  • Class starts Wednesday, May 10th and runs for 5 weeks, plus an extra review session ending on June 27th

What if I can’t make the live demonstration?

  • The entire workshop is recorded and uploaded to the learning site. You can complete the workshop on your own schedule.

Can I sell my completed paintings?

  • One of my goals for this class is to help you develop your own personal connection with oil painting and your personal style. The best way to express your unique artistic vision is to work from your own photo references and compositions. I am happy for you to show your original work. If your painting resembles the original painting in my copyrighted lesson videos, I ask that you don’t put those pieces out to sell or in competitions. I trust in your ability and heart to know what is too close and to value the painting created in this workshop as a conduit of personal growth.
